About Art Club
The Art Club started with a few friends who shared an interest in painting, specifically realistic or representational painting. We decided to meet together every few months in my studio to share what we had painted. It was thought that if we made interesting assignments with specific goals and ideas for painting, it would motivate us to paint in a timely manner and learn something along the way.
We’ve been carrying on about 10 years now and it’s still an informal gathering. The group has waxed and waned. It’s estimated that we’ve had about 25 to 30 people attend at least one meeting since the beginning, with our largest gathering at one time being 8 or 9 people.
The original goals have been exceeded. Not only did most of us try to do the assignments in a timely manner, we’ve stretched a bit while doing them, learned from them, critiqued each other’s works, confessed our own painterly shortcomings, and finally, entertained and inspired one another.
The club continues with just a few of us. As we become better artists, it seems we have faltered becoming good recruiters.
Here are many of the assignments that were made along with examples of the execution by some of the art club members.
